Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What Happens If The Weather Is Bad? top

Skydiving has always been a weather-dependent sport. The staff at Tradewind Sky Sports is comprised of highly accomplished skydivers and instructors who possess many years of jumping experience, however, we cannot control or influence the weather. If you are scheduled to attend a specific course, we ask you to come to the drop zone regardless of weather conditions. If we feel it is necessary to cancel this appointment, we will call you before. If inclement weather occurs after you arrive, all jumping will either be postponed until later in the day, or cancelled. It may be worth to wait for the weather to clear since there is a saying in Eastern North Carolina: When you don’t like the weather now, just wait – and mostly it will not take long to see a change.  If your scheduled jump has been cancelled due to inclement weather you may reschedule for the next available date that fits your schedule, or in case of prepaid arrangements you get a rain check good for up to one year from your original jump date.

What Should I Wear? top

Tradewind Sky Sports will provide you with a jumpsuit for your skydive. However, it is important that you have a full range of motion when skydiving; therefore, we suggest wearing non-restrictive clothing (T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, sweat pants and other athletic wear). We will not allow you to jump if you are wearing open-toed shoes, such as sandals or Tevas. Ankle supporting athletic shoes are preferable. If you choose to wear hiking boots, please make sure that they are not laced through hooks.

How Long Should I Plan On Being There? top

At Tradewind Sky Sports our main concern is safety. Skydiving is a serious sport, so we don't rush anything. There are many factors involved that can slow down or speed up progress, such as equipment availability, aircraft, weather, special requests, etc., so plan on spending an entire afternoon with us at the drop zone.

Can I Jump With My Friends? top

Yes, but we have our limitations. Our aircraft can accommodate two students together two jump masters on the same load. So, if you are a Tandem student and would like to jump with another Tandem student, it is possible. Videotaping can be done by one of the jump masters without having a special jumper on board for this purpose. The staff at Tradewind Sky Sports will try to arrange for you and your friend to ride to altitude, but we cannot guarantee for the arrangements.

How Old Do You Have To Be To Skydive? top

You must be 18 years of age or older in order to make your first jump. A picture I.D. will be required when checking in the day of your jump. Driver's licenses, passports, and military ID’s are acceptable forms of identification. Under no circumstances do we allow jumpers under the age of 18.

Do You Have Group Rates? top

Yes! Click here to view.

Where Do I Sign Up? top

Due to the growing popularity of skydiving we encourage you to make your reservations at least two to three weeks in advance. This will ensure that there is class space available for you and your group. A non-refundable deposit of $50.00 per person is required in order to make a reservation. We accept most major credit cards and cash. The quickest way to guarantee your reservation is over the phone with a credit card. If you are interested in videotaping your skydiving experience, please let us know when you make your reservation so that we can accommodate your request.
Once your class has been scheduled and Tradewind Sky Sports does not cancel you in advance due to weather or other reasons you are required to attend regardless of weather conditions. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of your deposit.
