After the city climbed three places in the ranking by the SportBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities Awards, Glasgow is now at fifth place ahead of Los Angeles, Tokyo, Sydney and Paris .
Glasgow is also the number one city in the sports legacy category as well as the best small city by population band. It managed to beat Amsterdam, Calgary, Doha and Vancouver.
The CEO of Glasgow’s city council, Annemarie O’Donnell said that Glasgow’s sporting reputation has never been higher.
In a public statement after the announcement she said “Our rise as one of the world’s top sporting cities has been secured thanks to our investment in world-class facilities, our international events programme and our commitment to increasing participation and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.”
